Canyon de Chelly National Monument Adventure - May 22-25, 2025
Join us for a unique opportunity to hike deep within the breathtaking and sacred canyons of historical Canyon de Chelly National Monument. This trip is highlighted by camping within the monument on family property, led by local Navajo guides!
Departing from Phoenix, we travel north through a diverse landscape from the Sonoran desert, through ponderosa pine woodland, and ancient volcanic petrified forests! After a lunchtime break in Petrified National Park, we settle in for the night in the original Thunderbird lodge in Chinle, Arizona.
After a filling breakfast, we meet our Navajo guides who take us on our journey deep into the springtime bloom of Canyon de Chelly. We’ll stop at pictograph and petroglyph panels, gaze thoughtfully at ancient ruins, and head toward our private camp - a very special Navajo family-owned property among the towering sandstone walls. We cozy up to a camp dinner prepared by our seasoned guides and settle into a fire for the evening.
Day three we explore further into the canyon - both Navajo and Hopi people -but it goes back even further, with nearly 4000 years of archeological and human history around every corner and a chance to encounter deer, wild horses, migrating birds - maybe even some black bear tracks! A signature meal at our camp together with friends caps off the evening as we watch the sun set, casting shadows on glorious canyon walls of the ancients.
Our fourth and final day features a memorable and breathtaking hike over a historical route travelled by Navajo hundreds of years ago. A few still travel these unbelievable paths up the canyon sides! Guaranteed to stay in your memory for a long, long time! We’ll return south visiting another cultural touchpoint, in Winslow before dropping off in Phoenix that evening.
Cost: $2799/pp includes all meals beginning with day one lunch through day four late lunch, camp-supported equipment, and transportation from and returning to Phoenix airport area. Guests supply their own sleeping bag, day pack and personal equipment.
Dates: May 22-25, 2025. Departs from Phoenix, AZ
